"I was surprised to see the mention on page 10 of Dara Hegar, wife of Glenn Hegar.  Glenn is running for state senator for SD-18.  I checked up on your research and confirmed that Dara is an associate for the Mark Lanier law firm. Her bio is posted at LanierLawFirm.com. I was blown away. Glenn presents his wife as a farmer's wife.

He presents himself as a rice farmer, though he graduated from St. Mary's School of Law in 1997.

I agree with your Shark Watch pledge that a candidate's spouse should not work for a plaintiffs' firm. Keep up the good work of informing us about the RINOs."

It's Not Safe to Go into the Water
A Note From Janelle Shepard

Janelle Shepard

Conservatives risk losing it all.

Ronald Reagan's populist and unapologetic brand of conservatism converted many former Texas Democrats to Republicans. In the years since Reagan, the Democratic Party's collapse in Texas has been dramatic.

Every statewide elected official is now Republican, and Republicans control both the Texas House and Senate. Even on the county level, Republicans now dominate many parts of the state.

For the last decade, a relatively small cadre of personal injury lawyers has provided nearly ALL the money to the Texas Democratic Party. Some believe this relationship has contributed to the demise of Texas Democrats.

A Conservative's Handbook On Texas Land Sharks & The Texas GOP

Now the trial lawyer infiltration has spread more and more into the Republican circles. And after several years of wringing my hands and whining to other conservatives about this threat, I decided to broadcast my deep concerns by putting together a 20 page report titled TEXAS SHARK WATCH available online at here at txsharkwatch.org.

You Will Be Amazed What Is Happening In Texas Politics

The report is not a criticism of the many honorable attorneys in Texas who work hard and give donations to candidates in average amounts similar to other community members.

Unlike business leaders who make political contributions, personal injury trial lawyers have not accumulated their wealth by producing products or services that are voluntarily consumed. Instead, their largesse comes from playing a zero sum game that exhausts 2.3% of our economy every year.

Trial lawyers' primary purpose in making huge and often conflicting political contributions is not to advance their own deeply held views, but to protect and expand the mechanisms in policy and law through which they can profit at others' expense.

And That's Not Conservative At All!

Personal injury trial lawyers, Democrat or "Republican", who believe in the judicial lottery system and push for huge jackpot judgments should not feel comfortable with conservatives.

Conservatives do not believe everyone is a victim. Conservatives do not support the "yeah, I did it, but it's not my fault" excuse. Yet, more and more trial attorneys are joining the ranks of the Texas GOP and writing enormous checks to key legislators.

I'm tempted to stay on the beach, but no, it's time to dive in - harpoon ready!
